About SamiK
I'm a Library Director for a small(ish) Texas town with a desire to share my love of books and the library with my community.
Currently, I am working towards my MLS (Master of Library Science) from Texas Woman's University (my alma mater!).
When I'm not treading through a pile a school work and work work, I make precious memories with both my handsome men at home. Whether we are playing with the sand between our toes, making a campfire, or just taking in a movie at home, every moment is unique.

Putting the extras to good use

This morning was designated as a "cleaning day" to get the Circulation desk back in order. Like any other cleaning project, I went too far. This time led to a new project, which is great, because I love new projects!
Since I started here, we've been giving children, who sign up for their first library card, an activity book and 4 pack of crayons. A welcome kit for kids has been churning in my mind, and today it was realized!
Our new kits are basically made up of our leftovers, but its some great items that were collecting dust in the supply closet and children's closet. Thankfully we had plenty of everything to get the project going.
I made fourteen kits to start off December. Each kit includes a 2008 Texas Reading Club lime-green bag (250 bags just sitting there, wasting away!!!), an activity booklet, a box of crayons, Martha Speaks stickers, a Dr. Seuss bookmark (until we get new ones), a pencil, a library card pocket, decorate-your-own bookmark, and a balloon.

My favorite part is the way the child's face lights up when they see what they get for getting a library card. I can't wait for the first of our new kits to be handed out.
